A Journey Through The Wild

This weekend is your last to check out a unique, captivating exhibit at The Dorchester Art Project, called “Into The Wild.” The space is currently featuring an art exhibition centered around Boston artist, Cliff Notez’s, most recent music album titled “Why The Wild Things Are.”

The exhibit blends a range of multimedia that ties in themes already incorporated in the album. The exhibit and album show a spin on the children’s book “Where The Wild Things Are” with their titles, and also by showing theme and plot similarities from the book.
A short story displayed throughout the exhibit is centered around a character named “Leon” who wears a lion suit and goes on a journey, struggling with a sense of self.

Cliff Notez brings in a different take by exploring the “why:” why the wild things are the way they are. He centers the art around the issues from the music album, that people face in real life.

“The goal of the show basically is to give another perspective on my second album “Why the Wild Things Are.” I feel like that album is packed with a lot of content and it couldn't fully be translated through music so I needed to use a bunch of other mediums to try and do it some justice,” said Notez.

The show explores issues with racial injustice and mental health, and features mixed media such as paintings, video clips, prints, and a printed story scattered through the exhibit.

Sam Potrykus, who works for Dorchester Art Project, is especially fond of this show.

“I’m very excited about this show because it’s a local artist who experiments in many mediums so it’s cool to see this primarily musician and well-known musician do a foray into the visual art world,” said Potrykus.

Potrykus described the exhibit as colorful, dynamic, and “the perfect visual component to the album.”

The free exhibit will be available for viewing from 12 p.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
